ADMINISTRATIVE OFFICERS

Doug is a 1990 graduate of UW-Platteville. Doug was one of the department’s Emergency Vehicle Operations Course (E.V.O.C.) instructors and has also taught at the UW-Platteville Recruit Academy, the Southwest Wisconsin Technical College, and as an Adjunct Professor at UW-Platteville. McKinley was formerly a lieutenant in charge of the Support Services Division at the department as well as the Project Director of the Iowa-Grant Drug Task Force. Doug started as a patrol officer with the Platteville PD in 1991. Doug began his career in law enforcement as an undercover investigator in the Washington County Sheriff’s Department multi-jurisdictional drug unit in West Bend, WI. Doug is a 2001 graduate of the Northwestern University School of Police Staff and Command and a 2005 graduate of the FBI sponsored Law Enforcement Executive Development Seminar.

Josh is a 1999 graduate of UW-Platteville with a B.S. in Criminal Justice. Josh served for many years as the department's Lead Detective and Patrol Sergeant. Josh is a 2010 graduate of the Fox Valley Technical College Executive Development Institute. He has also taught several courses at UW-Platteville as an adjunct Professor and also instructed at Southwest Wisconsin Technical College for many years. Josh is also active in the community, serving as the President of the Platteville School Board. Josh was promoted to Operations Lieutenant in December 2020.

Andrea is a 2001 graduate of UW–Platteville where she also received her Police Recruit Certification. Andrea spent several years as the Department’s Community Policing Coordinator, splitting her time between community policing activities and conducting investigations. Andrea returned to the patrol unit in March of 2009. Andrea served as an Officer in Charge and a Field Training Officer until her promotion to Sergeant in August of 2013. She was an Advisor for the Department’s Explorer Post from 2004 through April 2016. Andrea is a graduate of the 2014-2015 Wisconsin Command College. She was a supervisor of the Field Training Program for the department until her promotion to Support Services Lieutenant in June 2020.

Ryan is a 2005 graduate of UW-Platteville and completed the Southwest Tech Police Academy in August 2008. Ryan is also a graduate of the 2015-2016 Wisconsin Command College through UW-Madison continuing education program and the Wisconsin Department of Justice. Ryan formerly served as an Officer in Charge and a Field Training Officer before being promoted to the rank of Sergeant in September of 2014.

Kris is a 2007 graduate of UW-Platteville, with a B.S. in Criminal Justice and a minor in Mathematics. Kris graduated from the SWTC Police Academy in 2007. Kris graduated in 2021 with a Master of Science in Education with a Counseling emphasis from UW-Platteville. She achieved the rank of OIC in 2009 and is a Field Training Officer In 2011, Kris became a certified EVOC instructor and is also a Pursuit Intervention Technique (P.I.T.) instructor. In 2016, Kris successfully completed Leadership in Police Organizations (LPO) put on by the International Association of Chiefs of Police (IACP). Sergeant Purkapile is a graduate of the Northwestern School of Police Staff and Command (SPSC) #462, holding the position of treasurer, and the current Sergeant at Arms for the Wisconsin Association of Women Police (WAWP).

Kris Purkapile

Matt is a 2010 graduate of UW-Platteville, with a B.S. in Criminal Justice. He was born and raised in Viroqua, WI and worked as a part-time police officer for the Viroqua PD from October 2010-January 2011. He was previously employed by the Platteville Police Department as a Community Service Officer. In his time with the Platteville Police Department he has become a Field Training Officer, and he is a part of the Southwest Wisconsin Emergency Response Team. Matt was promoted to Sergeant in 2020. Matt was chosen as the 2024 Officer of the year by his peers.

Paul is a 2008 graduate of UW-Platteville, with a B.S. in Criminal Justice and the SWTC Police Academy. Paul achieved the rank of Sergeant in 2021. Paul has also held the positions of Officer-In-Charge, Field Training Officer, and he is an instructor in EVOC and RADAR/LASER. Paul is also a proud member of the Grant County Law Enforcement Honor Guard and volunteers his time as a firefighter.

Amy is a 2004 graduate of UW-P with a B.S. in Criminal Justice. She worked two years for the New Glarus Police Department before starting with PLPD. Amy was assigned as detective in 2013. Amy has completed many specialized and advanced training courses related to investigations.

Detective Tony Vander Velden graduated from UW-Platteville in 2013 with a B.S. in Criminal Justice and then completed the Law Enforcement Academy at SWTC. He has held various positions at the police department and is currently assigned to the Platteville Bureau of Investigations.

Nate is a 2007 graduate of UW-Platteville, with a B.S. in Criminal Justice and completed the Southwest Wisconsin Technical College Police Academy in August of 2007. In the spring of 2010 Nate earned the rank of Officer in Charge (OIC) and has since become a certified Field Training Officer, Defense and Arrest Tactics Instructor, Taser Instructor, Scenario Instructor and is a member of the Southwest Wisconsin Emergency Response Team.

Jake is a graduate of UW-Platteville, with a B.S. in Criminal Justice. Jake began his Law Enforcement Career in October of 2009 working part-time for the City of Darlington and working part-time for Lafayette County. Jake was hired full-time by the City of Platteville in November of 2011. He is a member of the Southwest Emergency Response Team and a Field Training Officer. He has attended First Line Supervisory School and is a certified Instructor for Vehicle Contacts, Scenarios, and Defense and Arrest Tactics.

Simeon is a 2014 graduate from Fox Valley Technical College. He served as a community service officer at the Appleton Police Department before relocating to Platteville. Simeon achieved the rank of Officer in Charge (OIC) in 2020. He is a Field Training Officer (FTO), a Tactical Response instructor, and Assistant Team Leader on the Southwest Wisconsin Emergency Response Team.

Josh is a 2019 graduate of UW-Platteville. He has a B.S. in Criminal Justice with a Minor in Forensic Investigation and an Emphasis on Law Enforcement. He graduated from the SWTC Law Enforcement Academy in September of 2019. Josh was in the Marine Reserves from 2017-2023. His career began with the Platteville Police Department in 2016 as a Community Service Officer. He was assigned to the Community Resource Officer position from 2020-2023. Officer Stowe is on the Crisis Negotiations Team and also leads the PLPD Drone Program. Josh is also a volunteer firefighter in his spare time.

Ethan is a native of Darlington, Wisconsin, having served from 2012 to 2018 on the volunteer fire department. A 2017 graduate of UW-Platteville, he earned a B.S. Degree in Criminal Justice with a minor in Social Sciences. After graduation, Ethan worked in Community Based Corrections at a residential correctional facility for the State of Iowa as a Residential Officer. In December 2019, he began his career with the Platteville Police Department. He has been an OIC since 2023, an FTO since 2025 and is currently one of PLPD's Firearms Instructors. Ethan attended the 2020 Western Technical College Law Enforcement Academy. Ethan was chosen as 2023 Officer of the Year by his peers.

Jarad is a 2017 graduate of Madison College with an associate degree in Liberal Arts before earning his B.A. in Criminal Justice from UWP in 2020. He graduated from SWTC Law Enforcement Academy in September 2020. In 2019 he was hired with PLPD as a CSO and was then hired as a full-time patrol officer in 2020. Ava worked as a Community Resource Officer for the Dubuque Police Department prior to joining our department. She graduated academy in October 2025 and is currently completing our FTO program.

Amy Dillman
Amy began her career in emergency services as a Dispatcher/ EMT in 1988, with Paratech Ambulance Service in Milwaukee. Amy found the field of Public Safety Telecommunications to be a good fit and has served several agencies around the state in this capacity, including the Grant County Sheriff's Office. Amy joined the Platteville Police Department after graduating from UW-Platteville in 2005.

Brooklyn began working as a part-time Telecommunicator for the Platteville Police Department in June 2016 and opted for full-time when the opportunity presented in 2018. Brooklyn graduated high school from Cuba City, WI in 2006. Afterward she joined the United States Navy as an Air Traffic Controller, completing a 5-year enlistment.

Ian began working as a full-time Telecommunicator for the Platteville Police Department in February 2022. Ian graduated from James Madison University in 2012. Shortly after, he joined the Marine Corps for 5 years. After leaving the service, he took a job in corporate security in Dubuque.

Tina began working as a part-time Telecommunicator for the Platteville Police Department in September 2021. Tina comes to us with 20 years EMT service, 12 with Platteville EMS and 8 with Southwest Health EMS. She continues to serve with Southwest Health EMS as an AEMT (casual status). Tina served 13 years as a firefighter.

Mika began working as a part-time Telecommunicator for the Platteville Police Department in May 2024. Mika graduated from UW-Platteville in 2024 with a B.S. in Criminal Justice and a minor in Forensic Investigation. This is her first job out of college and has found it to be a great fit for her skillset.

Sarah Hake is a 1999 graduate of SWTC. She got her start by serving as the Office Manager of the Iowa-Grant Drug Task Force from 1999-2004. Due to that position being grant-funded for a limited time, she went on to work at UW-Platteville and later a local bank. She was happy to return to the police department as a part-time Administrative Assistant in 2009. In February 2018, she was promoted to full time Office Coordinator. When not at work she is a volunteer firefighter and first responder. She also serves as her fire department’s treasurer, as a steward of her church, and as the secretary/treasurer of a cemetery board.

Alex began working as a part-time dispatcher for PLPD in August 2018 and became full-time in July 2019. She transferred into the Records Department in December 2021. Alex comes to us with over 10 years of experience in emergency medical services, having been with the Mineral Point Rescue Squad since 2015 and Rewey First Responders since 2020 and is currently their service director and training officer. Alex also worked for Southwest Health EMS for 2 years. Alex was chosen as 2022 employee of the year by her peers.
